New Muslim Transitional Life Coaching Course

Last year, I had the privilege of designing and delivering a comprehensive 6-week life coaching course specifically tailored for new Muslims and individuals seeking to reconnect with their faith.

The course was held at the Manchester Islamic Centre, where I facilitated group sessions for up to 10 participants. This structure allowed for a supportive, intimate environment where individuals could engage meaningfully with the material and with one another.

The creation of this course was deeply informed by my personal experience as a new Muslim 21 years ago. At that time, I faced significant challenges and a profound sense of isolation due to the lack of resources and guidance available to me. Reflecting on these experiences, I developed the course not only based on my own journey but also in response to the common struggles and obstacles many individuals face when embracing Islam. In addition, the course addresses the experiences of those born into Muslim families who may not have fully understood or practised the core principles of Islam, sometimes confusing cultural practices with the true essence of the faith.

Throughout the programme, we explored a range of crucial topics, including the nature of Faith, understanding one’s reasons for being Muslim, overcoming personal difficulties, creating meaningful change, setting goals, building self-esteem, and more. The course was designed to provoke deep reflection and encourage personal growth, using a variety of learning methods such as interactive exercises, group discussions, and assignments. These activities were intended to ensure that each participant had the opportunity to internalise the teachings of Islam and make them central to their personal development.

A key element of the course was the provision of a personal journal, which each participant created for themselves throughout the duration of the programme. This journal served as a reflective tool, enabling individuals to document their thoughts, insights, and progress, and it provided a lasting resource for continued growth beyond the course itself.

Today, I successfully delivered the final session of this course. As I reviewed the feedback from participants after each session, as well as the final course evaluations, I was deeply humbled and grateful for the positive responses. It is clear that the course had a meaningful impact on each individual involved, and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to their journeys. Alhamdulillah.
